You would not be
a number here.

We are a small Maryland business doing the hardest technical work the Intelligence Community and the Department of Defense have. There are few enough of us that everyone knows what everyone else is working on.

What you would
actually work on

Our customers bring us the problems that did not work the first three times. If it were easy they would have done it in house.

Cybersecurity engineering

Reverse engineers, forensics, network operators

Taking something apart to find out how it was built, and reading what a failure left behind. The work that does not get written up afterwards.

Software engineering

Builders of long lived systems

Cloud and service oriented architectures, DevSecOps, embedded work, microservices, and high performance computing.

Systems engineering

People who design before anyone codes

Requirements that survive contact with reality, and life cycle plans somebody will actually follow.

Data science

AI and ML on real mission data

Messy, classified, and nothing like a benchmark set. The interesting problems are in the data.

Infrastructure and engineering support

The people everything else depends on

Cloud, systems and network administration, databases, HPC, automated test, and virtualization.

Everyone says competitive benefits.
Here is the whole list.

You are an engineer. You would rather read the figure than the adjective, so nothing below is an adjective.

About clearances

Nobody in this corridor explains this part, so here it is plainly.

Amy Walker, Director of Security at SlyFox Solutions
Amy Walker Director of Security. Twenty years in the Intelligence Community, and the person who runs personnel clearances here.

Most of our roles need one

The work sits inside customer spaces, so the clearance requirement is real and it is not something we can waive. It is the first thing worth checking before you spend time on an application anywhere in this industry.

If you already hold one

Say which level and when it was last adjudicated. That single line moves your resume further in ten seconds than a page of summary will.

If you do not hold one

Write to us anyway and say so. We will tell you honestly whether there is a path for the work we have, rather than leaving you to guess. A straight no is more useful to you than silence, and you will get one if that is the answer.

Coming out of the military, or out of school

Tell us what you have actually built or operated, not what you are certified in. Both groups tend to undersell the hands-on part, which is the part we read for.

There is no req
to apply against

That is on purpose, and it is the part most people find strange at first.

A job posting describes a slot somebody wrote down six months ago. It is a poor way to find out what an engineer is good at, and a worse way to find out what they want to be doing next. So we skipped the postings and read resumes instead.

Send a resume

jointheden@slyfox‑solutions.com

  1. Step one

You send a resume to The Den

Include your clearance status and where you can work. Those two facts decide most of it.

  2. Step two

    A person reads it

Not a keyword filter. We are still small enough that this is literally true.

  3. Step three

We match you against real work

Against the programs we hold and the ones we are bidding, based on what you are good at and what you want next.

  4. Step four

You talk to the people you would work with

Including at least one person who does the job you are being considered for.

Who is on the
other end of it

When we say a person reads your resume, these are the people. A company this size can name them, so it should.

Two SlyFoxians,
at length

Unedited, including the parts that ramble. There are three more on the homepage.

I worked at Dave's first company for over seven years, so I was very excited at the possibility to work with him again at SlyFox. The contract I was working on was ending in about a month and Dave found a great position for me and a coworker even before the company was really ready to go live. Four years later, my friend and I are still thriving in the position, and I have enjoyed watching SlyFox grow into a supportive organization with a very personal and social touch.

Jim, Sr. System Engineer

The leadership here presents a family-like atmosphere that strives to approach each employee's interaction with great attention, love and admiration. After welcoming my second child, it was extraordinary how supportive SlyFox was in helping improve my work life balance in an effort to help my family get situated. The generosity SlyFox has given to my family made us feel like a top priority of theirs. The SlyFox leadership team and company perks are unmatched.

is on the list

It is the sixth line of a credo that was written before there was any reason to put it on a website.

The other six are integrity, honoring commitments, loyalty and support, passion and excellence, ingenuity and resourcefulness, and communicating with transparency. They are not posters. Two of the five people who run this company share a last name with its founder, and the charities we back are children's hospitals rather than conferences.

The credo in full, and where the name came from

Send it even if
you are not sure.

The worst case is a straight answer about whether there is a path. That is still more than most firms in this corridor will give you.
